Architecture Bake Off 2021: Overall Winner + Special Prizes Announced

NEWS |

We are delighted to announce the overall winner of the 2021 Architecture Bake Off.

Earlier this month, the judges selected their shortlist of top bakes. We put these to the public vote, and are delighted to announce that, having counted the nearly 2000 votes, Fíonnadh McGonigle has been crowned LFA Architecture Bake Off Winner for 2021.

You can see the winning bake and the process behind the bake here:

Fíonnadh commented on her win:

“Thank you so much for this!  I thoroughly enjoyed making this cake- it brought me back to my architecture school all-nighters making models, and I couldn’t have asked for a better building to have appeared on the list. It is really so lovely to receive such positive feedback on my interpretation of Liberty.  Architecture and baking are where my two worlds collide and so many people encouraged me to enter, so I am so glad to have lived up to everyone’s expectations, so thank you again!”

Some of those voting commented:

“The most meticulously created piece of architecture plus it’s edible- although I wouldn’t dare be the first one to put a knife through this fantastic creation” – Eavan

“I’m very fond(ant) of this cake” – Jack

“Thought it was visually impressive. Hard to believe it was a cake!” – Eoin

“As a baker I was totally impressed by the hours of detailed work used! Well done!” – Alice

“I’ve lived in London for over 30 years and this cake evokes warm and truly magical memories of buying and browsing for hours in Liberty of London, especially during the yuletide season.”

Fíonnadh will receive a Special Edition Smeg 50s Style Stand Mixer.
