Care in the Built Environment – Walking Tour

09 June 2021

17:00

Across our capital city, buildings are carefully designed to provide services and facilities to the community, blend new developments with the existing vernacular, reduce the impact of construction on the environment and restore or commemorate sites of historic importance. Join us on a walking tour of Bankside to explore how architects, planners and contractors have taken care in the built environment through clever design and careful selection of materials.

From the former Blackfriars Station that has been lovingly cleaned and restored, to the Tate Modern, a landscape example of innovative architecture that has cleverly incorporated design details from the historic site, whilst utilising features to make it accessible for all. We will explore how buildings demonstrate the value of an architect, moving beyond just the building, but understanding the needs of the building’s users, as well as the wider impact on the built environment.
