Learning about Lincoln Inn’s Field

12 June 2021

12:00 -13:00

Join us for this guided walk as we step both forward and back in time, to confront the dark social history of Lincoln’s Inn Fields.

We will visit its landmark sites – to learn about how its buildings and public spaces are inhabited. We will visit the secret site of the now demolished Insolvent Debtor’s Court, designed by the architect John Soane, and recount stories of the Court’s infamous cases.

We will visit the exterior of John Soane’s house, designed to showcase his large personal collection. The fascinating parallel events that took place in the two buildings – John Soane’s House and the Debtor’s Court - offer insights into the duality of affluence and indebtedness, and how these continue to prevail in central London in contemporary times.
