After part of their village was demolished to make way for a new high-rise development, the residents of Huanmin New Village on Taipei’s Toad Mountain realised that “a house doesn’t necessarily mean a home.” Under the further threat of eviction and demolition to make way for new flats, photographer Che LIN led a team to assist the residents in documenting the remaining architecture and the long history, with the goal to restore the sense of community and infuse new energy into the village through various art projects. With their effort, the once-dilapidated village is revived as a cultural heritage site with a bustling resident community.
This event is organised by the Ministry of Culture, Taiwan, the Taiwan Public Television Service Foundation and Taipei Representative Office in the UK.
