LFA Destinations

Becoming an LFA Destination helps position your area as one of the leading architectural and cultural destinations in the capital. Our tried-and-tested model helps you promote your area in a range of new ways. We also help you engage your stakeholders – whether local businesses or the local community.

Our work can help increase footfall, recognition and highlight the architecture and creativity of your area. We work with our LFA Destinations throughout the year to develop a year- round programme of amazing activities and architectural interventions, with a crescendo during the festival in June.

Our work creating your LFA Destination can be tailored to your requirements, however the ideal LFA Destination package brings together three key elements. We can vary the focus of our
work across each element – or indeed swap in or out additional elements

  • Destination Physical Installation
  • Digital Content
  • Fringe programme of community events
  • Additional NLA benefits are also offered.

Destination Physical Installation

Whether you want a high-profile installation that will gather organic social media coverage, or an architectural installation that will test new ideas in the public realm, or help your place-making strategy, the LFA can help you deliver impressive architectural installations. Many areas are finding that small-scale architectural interventions can help them adapt their place-making strategy quickly to adjust to the pandemic and climate change strategies.

LFA Competitions are a tried and tested way of identifying the best emerging architectural talent for your installation, producing a stunning design that will be well received by the local community and the press. You also gain a significant amount of press through the competitions process.

The LFA can also help you to directly commission an architect from our extensive network of talented emerging architects. We can then help project manage the installation to fruition.

Build costs for installations vary and would be in addition, but can range from £5k – £15k for smaller simple installations (e.g. benches, parkletts) up to £50k+ for major pavilions.

Digital Content

Throughout the pandemic we’ve seen renewed interest in our built environment. Through our Building Sounds programme we’re able to put together an impressive programme of audio and video content to showcase the architectural gems, historic legacy and architectural talent found in your area.

We can work with you to design and deliver a programme of podcasts, short videos and social media to engage the public in the stories found in your area. We can also help create opportunities for your stakeholders to tell their stories via our channels.

Community Programme / Call for Space

Each year we run our unique LFA Open Call for events to form part of the festival. We work with LFA Destinations to bring many of these events to their areas. We can work with you to find venues and locations to host festival events – helping pair venues with event organisers. We can also undertake stakeholder engagement, working with your local community to help them develop their own LFA events.

We provide them with an enhanced package of support, training and promotion for their events within your LFA Destination area. Whether you want us to help engage your local community or business community, we can help deliver true local engagement in the festival. We will extend deadlines for organisers within your area, helping increase the number of participants.

Additional Options

Our LFA Destination package can be tailored to your requirements. You may wish us to bring a particular audience to your area through one of our headline events, or you may want us to develop particular bespoke programming. This can be arranged either in addition to or in place of various elements above. For example:

Hosting Opening Party, Theme Launch, Patrons’ Dinner

Hosting one of the LFA’s major events can be a great way to bring a significant high-level audience to your area, helping to showcase the destination to a particular audience. We generally seek an additional developer to cover some costs for these events, but LFA Destinations are able to sponsor these events – which brings them a host of additional benefits, speaking opportunities, visibility, etc.

Direct programming

We can help to directly commission bespoke programming for your area, including architectural tours, exhibitions, etc.
