The Architecture Bake Off 2021: Against the Architects
The Baker: Will Atkinson
The Bake: Tower Bridge
"My son, Will (aged 5) selected Tower Bridge to build. We'd made Queen Elizabeth Tower as part of a lockdown home school challenge earlier in the year so Will had a good idea on how to make the towers for the bridge. I acted as architect, providing paper pattern pieces for the main contractor (Will) to work from. We made a cinnamon and cardamon biscuit dough. Will rolled and cut the pieces and we baked these on day one of the build."
"Day two was construction. First came a blue icing river. Weetabix shapes echoed the bases of the towers so we used 4 biscuits per tower to raise them out of the water. Will piped royal icing to build the towers, road and bridge. A curly wurly provided some lattice work for the top section. Will decorated the towers with some piped windows and flags to complete the build."
